He stood there in anguish, unable to move, unable to speak. He just watched her breathe in, breathe out, wished that everything was just a nightmare, wished that this was another of her stupid pranks but he knew it's not. Her eyes were dead serious. The gentleness that was once there was gone, it was replaced by hate and that pierced him to the bones.
"You see this coming right?" She asked, breaking the deafening silence with a question that he wished she wouldn't ask.
It was his fault, he knew it but still, he didn't wish for it to end up like this. He love her so much but he took her for granted. He couldn't come terms with his feelings, he's afraid of what people would say, he's afraid that things wouldn't work out between them so he kept on fooling around, played with her knowing she wouldn't give up on him, she would stay by him because she loved him... only him. He tested her. Tested her feelings for him but as he looked at her now, he could no longer see that woman, the woman who declared her undying love for him. The woman with a starry eyes.
"Do you really want this?" The soft pleading of his eyes belied the harshness in his voice.
Say no goddamn it! He shouted in his head. Still so proud to the very end, he mocked himself.
She couldn't help but laugh, she laughed so loud and hard, that he knew this was turning into hysterics.
"Stop laughing!" He shouted.
She laughed even harder that he rushed to her side and shook her.
She broke off from the hold and hugged him. He hugged her back not meaning to let go. Read my mind, goddamn it!
"Let's break up. Give me back me. If one day we see each other again and you learn to grow up, realized my worth and love me as much as I do or even more and my feelings for you stay unchanged then... until then." She choked on a sob.
"Don't do this" He said but he knew it was too late. He already lost her.
